  • The town of Boomi

The town of Boomi was established at its present location in 1897, having been moved from Kunopia on the banks of the Boomi River. The rationale for Kunopia's establishment was a crossing point on the river, but it quickly became a small service centre.

The town of Boomi is located near the border of the NSW & Queensland, one hour NW of Moree via bitumen road. Whilst in Boomi, enjoy a pleasant stopover at the quiet and well shaded Artesian Baths in Boomi.

Through community spirit and hard work a Co-op was establishedin 2008. it is community owned and operated. Basic groceries such as fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, milk and bread can be purchased from the Co-op. It also provides take away and has a diesel fuel outlet.

Though decentralisation casued the town growth to stagnate, Boomi continues to provide primary education and is the centre of what is widely agreed to be a strong, active and unusually homogenous community which has a reputation for getting things done.
